It’s Spring in Virginia, and that means it’s festival season.

We might be in the midst of a cool spell at the moment as we kick off spring, but that’ won’t last forever. According to The Weather Channel, it’s going to be a hot summer. On a temperature forecast map for the month of June, they specifically describe the local predicted temperatures as “much above normal.” If you’re a local, you already know that June is pretty warm. “Much above normal” makes us think it’s going to be a doozy of a summer.

That makes this spring the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the weather. As Goldie Locks might say, it’s not too hot, and it’s not too cold. It’s just right.

As the weather starts to get warmer, but the water still is a tad too chilly, it’s a great time to take advantage of the area’s many spring festivals and outdoor activities.

Two of the big spring festivals on the tops of everyone’s minds are the Clarksville Wine Festival, coming up on April 8th, and the Wings, Wheels, & Crafts Festival, happening on May 6th.

Clarksville Wine Festival

The Clarksville Wine Festival, in its 11th year, offers tastings from wineries from all around the state of Virginia, live music, and great food from local restaurants. Between tastings, stroll through downtown Clarksville’s unique one-of-a-kind shops and take in the beautiful lake views.

If you’re looking for family-friendly fun, the Wings, Wheels, and Crafts Festival, presented by the Lake Gaston Junior Women’s Club, might be just the ticket. In its third year, the festival features lots of activities for both kids and adults. There’s a car show, a tractor show, craft vendors, and, of course, lots of delicious food. Kids can take to the sky in free plane rides offered by the EAA Young Eagles pilots, get their face painted, and play in the moon bounce and other games.

Some other events happening this spring that you might want to take advantage of include the Lake Gaston Volunteer Fire Department’s Oyster Roast, Shrek The Musical presented by Brunswick Academy Theatre, and South Hill Junior Women’s Club’s Dash for the Glass 5k/10k, among many, many others.
